Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at East Bethel Elementary School have been recently hitting the campaign trail in anticipation of the Student Council election on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Voting occurred on Tuesday with students casting their ballots for the EBES Student Council.
Approximately 75 students applied, and in addition to a review of the applications submitted, students were selected to campaign based on demonstrating kind, safe, respectful, and responsible behaviors, leadership, and work completion. Students selected to campaign were provided a list of campaign expectations leading up to election day.

Students in each of the three grades voted for representatives from each of the classes in their grade. Results of the voting will be shared with students on Wednesday. It’s unknown if there has ever been a Student Council at EBES, so the formation of the group is going to be new to most at the school.
“The goal of the Student Council is to have students in leadership roles and to have more ownership of their school,” said Molly Gallagher, a STEAM Teacher at EBES who volunteered to serve as the Student Council advisor. “It's an opportunity for students to get more involved in their school as they go into middle school."
Congratulations to all who participated in both campaigning and voting!
