Powwow promotion

The American Indian Education Department at St. Francis Area Schools is hosting a co-sponsored Maamawi Niimi’idiwin Together Powwow on Saturday, Feb. 15 at St. Francis High School. Admission is free and visitors can come and go as they're able.

The Grand Entry is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the Traveling Song is scheduled for 5 p.m. Food trucks and vendors will be at the event. A hand drum contest will also be featured. View the Powwow Flyer.

“Hosting this event allows us to bring a strong cultural connection to our own community when we often have to travel to other Tribal nations,” said Haley Dagle, SFAS American Indian Education Coordinator. “My hope is that everyone in attendance will feel excited and welcomed, no matter their knowledge level of Indigenous cultures.”

The Master of Ceremony is Niigaanigwaneb Byron Ninham, Arena Director is George Morrow III, Host Drum is War Thunder and Invited Drum is Red Tree.

The Powwow is sponsored by the following Indian Education Programs:

  • St. Francis

  • Big Lake

  • Cambridge-Isanti

  • Centennial

  • Princeton

  • St. Cloud

“I’m so proud that we’re able to host our first powwow with the support of our American Indian Education Parent Advisory Committee, district staff, and community members,” Dagle said. “Hosting an event like this is so exciting and has been a great learning experience.”
